Marche De Noel, Lans en Vecors & Our first attempt at Raclette

The owners of the place we rent left the placed "furnished" including, of course, two different Raclette makers (how could you really consider a placed furnished without this essential appliance? We have had the regional specialty at a restaurant and at a friend's house here, but this is the first time we made the dish ourselves. We used Raclette, Beaufort d'ete and Tomme de Chevre as our cheeses, all from the farmer's market. We poured the hot melted cheese on steamed broccoli, potatoes and cauliflower, garnished with cornichons. It was a hit after staying out late in the cold.

Everyone looks miserable, but these are our friends from Lans, who lived a year in Boston and are bilingual. The kids adore playing with them.

Pere Noel, beard hanging a little low by this point. Maybe a bit too much vin chaud?
